WHAT DOES IVEGLA MEAN ?

In the markets of Africa, there are many ivegla, one of the many local names for the "passeport masks". The size of these small pieces of crude earth varies from 1 to 2 inches.

Before the modern passeports, these little masks facilitated the crossing of the many borders between African kingdoms. Thus, it was possible to learn the tribe, the social class and the birth place of the traveller.

The authentic pieces are always specific to the bearer of the passeport mask. Today, offering a passeport mask is a nice way to wish happiness, success and good health.
